Unit topic five: Snowsports; Nordic, Alpine skiing or Snowboarding; term 3 (9 weeks)

During this unit students will be introduced to the sport of Nordic skiing. This will be done through an investigation of the history principles surrounding Nordic Skiing. The techniques with be taught at the snow farm and may include navigation, aspects of orienteering and the possibly of an overnight trip to one of the ski huts.

Regarding the assessment of this unit, students will need to perform skating or classic techniques to a beginner standard on beginner Nordic terrain, and adhere to safe Nordic skiing practices. A provision for alpine skiing or snowboarding will be provided through a few sessions Cardrona. For this assessment, students will need to demonstrate alpine skiing or snowboarding in controlled technique on a beginner run at a snowsport area, and explain and adhere to safe skiing practices.
